5G Communication Testers

Rohde & Schwarz CMX500

The Rohde & Schwarz CMX500 radio communication tester allows 5G New Radio (NR) signal test in sub-6 GHz (FR1) and mmWave (FR2) frequency bands. Built on a modular and scalable hardware architecture, the CMX500 seamlessly integrates with the company’s CMW500 wireless tester to cover all 5G wireless device test applications.

Today’s 5G devices must also pass LTE, WLAN, and Bluetooth Low Energy tests. By upgrading existing LTE test setups with the 5G NR testing capabilities of the CMX500, conformance labs can test the signaling, RF parameters, and data throughput rates of simultaneous LTE/5G connections in dual-connectivity mode.

Anritsu MT8000A – 5G Radio Communication Test Station

As the 5G standard is being set, development of 5G related products is fully underway. In comparison with 4G (LTE) communications, 5G not only covers conventional cellular communications but is also being examined for a wider range of target markets, including industrial equipment and automobiles. This section examines testing and measurement after comparing commercialization using 5G technology in cellular communications with the situation when 3G and 4G (LTE) were launched.

In today’s cellular markets, products developed in conformance with the same communication interconnectivity standards by different operators can be used worldwide, and furthermore, standardization of communication specifications is continuing so as to assure designated performance. The Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is continuing its work in development of standards from 3G to the current 5G, and is progressing with future specification standardization details.

With a 5G base station emulation function, a single Anritsu MT8000A test platform supports both the sub-6 GHz, including band n41, and the millimeter wave bands used by 5G. Combining it with the OTA Chamber enables both millimeter wave band RF measurements and beamforming tests using call connections specified by 3GPP.
